Homemade Periscope
You are watching a procession on the road. Suddenly some tall per son comes in front, and blocks your view. Now you are helpless and don't know what to do? Well, why don't you make a periscope and reach beyond this human wall. Don't Worry! Making it is no problem.
To make it you need materials namely a piece of cardboard (29 cm x 41cm), two plane mirrors (10 cm x 7.5cm).
Cut out a cardboard piece in the required size and draw three parallel lines at a distance of 7.5 cm, 7cm. and 7.5 cm respectively. Now draw a line 7 cm away from the top and cut out a rectangle (X') as shown in the figure here. At the bottom, make a circular hole of 4cm diameter. Now bend the cardboard inwards on the three lines and make a rectangular box. If you score these lines with the help of blade or knife, it will be easy to bend the cardboard, and result will be of excellent finish.
Now you will have a rectangular cardboard box in hand as you see in the picture. With the help of cello-tape fix two plane mirrors at the top and bottom, making 45° angles to the surfaces. Make sure that their looking ends face each other. Finally fix two cardboard pieces on its open ends and paste some colourful cloth or paper all over to make it more attractive. Well, your periscope is ready.
Want to try it? Just sit under your window and try to look outside.
Don't worry if you can't see anything. Now peep through your periscope and see the entire outside world come alive before you. Isn't it exciting? Not just exciting, it is immensely useful too. That's why it is used in submarines to keep a
watch.
